Why is my house so hot upstairs in the summer?

Hot air rises, but that's not the main problem. In most DFW homes, the attic is acting like an oven, and the heat is pushing straight through the ceiling into your living space. The fix is usually more insulation, better air sealing, or both. A free home assessment will tell you exactly where the heat is getting in.

Why are my energy bills so high even when I keep the thermostat set?

Your HVAC is working harder than it should because conditioned air is escaping and hot air is getting in. The most common entry points are the attic, around recessed lights, and gaps where plumbing or wiring passes through the ceiling. Adding spray foam, blown-in fiberglass or cellulose insulation and sealing those gaps reduces the load on your system and brings the bill down.

Uneven temperatures almost always point to an insulation or air sealing problem. Hot spots usually happen in rooms directly below the attic or at the ends of the house where insulation has thinned out or settled over time. In older DFW homes, the original insulation was often installed to the minimum code at the time, which is well below what's needed to handle a Texas summer.

Do I need to remove my old insulation before adding new insulation?

Not always. If the existing insulation is dry, intact, and free of mold or pest damage, new blown-in material can go right on top. If there's moisture damage, rodent contamination, or the old material has broken down, removal is the right call first. What R-value do I need for my attic in the DFW area?
